With all the talk of the interactive nature of violent video games and the effect this has on children, another form of entertainment continues to cruise under the radar affecting untold thousands of innocent victims.

The Murder Mystery Theater.

It's violent. It's interactive. It's entertainment. And it must be stopped.

All across America, our citizens are being exposed to this industry that obviously does not care about the average citizen, its consumer. While they can argue that it's just entertainment, such an argument will fall on deaf ears. We all know that its interactive nature makes it different. This practice must be controlled before someone gets hurt and a real murder occurs.

More than one murder mystery theater even admits its seedy and inappropriate interactivity. Murder Mystery Texas calls itself "Ultra Interactive" on its blood-soaked site. More terrifying still is that some Murder Mystery theaters are even advertising themselves as perfect for the whole family! And interactivity is their sinister goal: "We emphasize audience participation from the moment our guests arrive until our actors bid them adieu -- you can actively participate!"

Won't someone think of the kids? If not, I will. I'd like to offer the following suggestions:

1. That a ratings body be formed to provide parents the information they need to make informed decisions. If the industry is unwilling to do so, I call upon government to force it upon them.

2. That these "murder simulator" shows be rated M and carry the rating on the dinner menu, all advertising posters and on the door of the establishment where the activity will be carried out. In the state of Virgina, this rating label is to be no smaller than 3" per side.

3. That Congress and the FTC investigate these theaters and study how the nature of their interactivity affects the participants.

4. That politicians prohibit the sale of tickets to these shows to anyone under the age of 18 where they are deemed to be "ultra" interactive.

Please, contact your representative in Congress, in the Senate, in your local Legislatures and Assemblies before someone gets hurt. This horrible interactive entertainment must be controlled.
