Graphics-Based Erotic Games

So the next style of erotica in this article centers around sexy adventures that are based on graphics, usually either 3D or anime-based. Most of these games progress through a story, challenging players to achieve an eventual goal, like in most traditional games. This is lacking from the interactive sims mentioned above. Hentai games are erotic games using anime graphics and are enormously popular in Japan. They can range from sweet PG-rated dating simulations to full-blown X-rated hardcore adventures, with any measure of imaginitive strangeness thrown in. The unfortunate thing about H-games is the fact that they have little meaning to those who don't understand Japanese. There are a few companies that have translated popular Japanese hentai into English, and there will be more about this in a future article.

Then there is the 3D camp. Among my favorites is Virtual Valerie 2, a cybersex game where players perform sex acts on a 3D busty woman, resulting in a surprisingly erotic experience, and the Ultravixen series, possibly the only marriage of Japanese hentai and American 3D interactive erotica. The third installment of the series has just been released as Ultravixen Y3K. There are also 3D erotica sites sprouting up all over the internet, most of which will be featured in my next article. One of the most fully realized sites is Somavision.com, and like all the other 3D artists, they create realistic models of women using 3D software like Poser, and then give users the ability to interact with the women in various ways.

A few ground-breaking companies here in the States recently folded. Among them was Reactor, the developers of the Virtual Valerie series. Again it was highly regarded in Japan, but the company couldn't stay afloat in the US. Plans for Virtual Valerie 3 were in the works, but had to be canned. Another company to go out of business recently is AIVR, who developed the Girlfriend series, where players attempted to communicate with a woman using the kind-of-advanced-for-its-time artificial intelligence system, hopefully conning her into getting naked on a bed. There were several Girlfriend games released including Tracy and Donna.

I think that the real future is in 3D erotica, with voice acting. Interactive sex simulations will always have a niche, but I predict that as the 3D images get more and more realistic, and the technology improves, true interactivity will be achieved. Then the sky's the limit and the interactive sex industry will really take off.
